Habitat Downs Fundraiser Success! The Julian Smith Casino was decorated with red roses for The Habitat Downs, an indoor derby celebrating Kentucky Derby week. Ace Casino Events conducted the four indoor races that were sponsored by local merchants. Sponsored horses raced in the competition as determined by the role of dice. Attendees placed their bets on their favorites and enjoyed reaping the rewards of their winning horse. Activities included a buffet meal, catered by Ann’s Sweets and Treats, followed by biding for Silent Auction gifts. Participants enjoyed the hat contest and a reverse raffle with a cash prize. Silent auction gifts were awarded to the winning bidders. “We thoroughly enjoyed the Derby. It was a blast! We look forward to the event next year.”, stated one attendee. Augusta/CSRA Habitat for Humanity conducted this event to raise awareness and funds to build affordable housing in Augusta. This first time event raised almost $10,000. We are grateful for the many sponsors who contributed to our success. We look forward to greater achievements in future years as we continue working to build affordable housing.
